The headline is not wrong. You can reach Munich by plane, by car, train, bus, on the bike or walking if you are sporty - and on the log raft.
The latter can be done from Wolfratshausen, a small city located some 30 km South from Munich. The raft is massive. Eighteen spruce logs, each more than 15 meters long. With full comfort - you find here benches to sit on, a toilet, an exchange room for those who wish to swim (I tried, and water was by far not as cold as I was afraid, in July...).
And a music band, naturally, either a Bavarian brass band, or harder band with guitar and drums, but both play more or less the same and they do it well, so you won´t be bored at all.
The raft flows slowly on the river Isar, clean and young, arising just few dozens of kilometers upstream from the Alpine rocks. It stops only once, of course next to a large Bavarian pub. But you for sure get phenomenal refreshment direct
on the raft - beer, local sausages and famous minced "Leberkas" as starter, and rich barbecue later. The trip gets more dramatic when the raft flows through several slides - each slide starts slowly, silently, gets quicker and quicker, and ends with a huge splash of water which spills front rows of passengers. One of the slides is 18 meters high!!!
When you reach Munich and your trip comes to the end, do not leave immediately. If you stay for another 30 minutes, you´ll see that your raft...does not exist any more. It has been dismantled, a hydraulic arm grabbed each log as a safety match, and put all logs and other amenities on the camion which will bring all upstream, to re-assemble the raft the following morning. Day by day, except of winter break. Hopelessly sold out, so if you wish to live this fantastic experience, book now for the year 2019!
