Rothenburg is not far from Bamberg where I took you a month ago. Some 100 km South-West through the countryside they call 'Romantic Road' (Romantische Strasse) in Germany. You find it between bigger cities Wurzburg and Ulm in Bavaria. Btw you already know that if you do not want to upset locals, you shall call this region 'Franken', don't you?
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a small town behind medieval fortifications, with beautiful Town Hall, rich merchants' houses, catholic churches and streets with cobblestones. A historical city, as the archaic preposition in its name indicates. It is, first of all, a City of Cafés. They are many, and you won't fancy their coffee properly if you don't take a snowball with it. What? Snowballs in summer? No problem, snowballs are always available in Rothenburg! Small, medium, large, white, light and dark brown, depending on which chocolate you prefer. A mid-size snowball looks unconsumable at first glance, but soon you find that it is neither oily nor too sweet, and that the dough inside was originally a thin snake which was knit into a ball.
No matter if you spend an hour and half, or a day and half in Rothenburg; in both cases you slow down, get free of stress, and end your day with the feeling of complete relaxation.
