Zimní Olympijské hry Jižní Koreji skončily a staly se součástí historie. To mi připomnělo, že ve střední Evropě se již konaly šestery Olympijské hry. Počítejte se mnou: troje v Německu, dvoje v Rakousku, jedny ve Švýcarsku. Kdo chce teď potrápit své vědomosti nebo paměť, nechť tak učiní.
Převažují hry zimní, proto jimi začneme. První Olympijské hry na německé půdě se konaly v roce 1936 v Garmisch Partenkirchenu u samé jižní hranice země. Stadión je vyprojektován v duchu tehdejšího nacionálně socialistického ducha, ale zasazen do nádherné přírody okolních Alp a posléze několikrát rekonstruován jej již vydýchal. Je stále používán, nejznámějším podnikem, který se zde každoročně koná, je druhý závod Turné čtyř můstků ve skocích na lyžích (dříve Intersportturné).
Olympijské hry samotné byly v pořadí čtvrté zimní olympijské hry. Byly co do počtu účastníků do té doby jednoznačně největší, silně vzrostla zejména účast žen-sportovkyň. Hvězdou her se stala norská krasobruslařka Sonia Henie, která získala třetí zlatou mediali v řadě. Rok 1936 je pak jediným rokem, kdy se zimní i letní OH konaly v jediné zemi (a to už tak zůstane, protože od roku 1994 došlo k oddělení konání letních a zimních OH do různých let).
Návštěva stadiónu je možná a je zdarma (navíc je zde dobrá restaurace). Pokud sem zamíříte, pak si absolutně nenechte ujít procházku po lokální asfaltce do mírného kopce k soutěsce Partnachklamm. Soutěsku s krkolomným názvem vyhloubil pár metrů úzký potůček do fascinující hloubky. Kolmé, desítky metrů vysoké skály jsou od sebe i pouhé dva metry. Projdete-li soutěskou, vyjdete naopak na krásné, klidné louce s další možností přijemných túr. Výlet je vhodný i pro menší děti, možností občerstvení je na horských chatách několik.

Winter Olympic Games in South Korea are over and became history. Good reminder to me to realize that Olympic Games took place 6 times in Central Europe - three times in Germany, twice in Austria and once in Switzerland. Who wants to check her/his knowledge and memory, can try to compile the list now!
Winter Games are more numerous, so let us start with them. The first Olympic Games on the German territory took place in 1936 in Garmisch Partenkirchen (frequently called Ga-Pa), at the very southern border of the country. The Olympic Stadium is designed in the national socialist style, but set into splendid alpine nature and after many reconstructions, the style does not dominate it. It is still used; the most important event which takes place here each early January is the second race of the 'Vierschanzenturnee' (Four Hills Tournament) in ski jumping.
The Ga-Pa Olympic Games were the fourth Winter Olympic Games. They were far the biggest by number of athletes, especially number of female athletes grew substantially in comparison with previous Olympics in Lake Placid, USA. Sonia Henie, Norwegian female figure skater, became main star of these Games, with the 3rd gold medal in the row. The year 1936 is also the only year in new-era Olympic history when both Winter and Summer Games took part in the same country (and it will stay like this because the year when Winter and Summer Olympics are organized was split in 1994).It is possible to enter the stadium free of charge, and there is also a good restaurant there. If you happen here, you absolutely shall not miss short walk uphill by local apshalt road which ends in the 'Partnachklamm' gorge. It is unbelievable how deep and steep the gorge is, the walls are hundred meters tall and in the narrowest place are some 2 meters distant. Once through the gorge, you can continue walking through lovely, quiet alpine meadows and forrests, with few refreshment opportunities in the mountain huts.
